Q: I have downloaded the Windows installer and installed as administrator under C: and the installation finishes without any error message. When I want to run any of the EMAN programs, I get the error message about the missing msvcr80.dll. I found the file in a few folders on my system (e.g. ADOBE, and Windows\SxS... and copied it into the lib folder of EMAN but this didn't do the trick. I also tried re-installing and copying the dll into the win\system folder (the ladder of which leads to runtime error 6034). I also updated Windows, which also didn't change anything. I would greatly appreciate any help to resolve this issue. Thanks, Peer

A:

The eman-installer is built with Visual Studio 2003 .Net. The run-time windows library it needs is msvcr71.dll. In another words, it does not need msvcr80.dll to run any application of EMAN. I tried the eman1.8 installer and the installer in daily release download link, they are installed and run OK on winxp. Msvcr80.dll is the run time library for windows visual studio 2005. There must be something wrong to force your windows app link to msvcr80.dll.
